Dave's list makes it to radio shows

If CBS' latest plan is successful, David Letterman will be dominating more than the latenight talkshow wars.

CBS announced Monday it would be feeding Letterman's nightly "Late Show" Top 10 List to local radio stations, via satellite, in effect syndicating it as a daily program.

The feature, which debuts April 1, is being offered to CBS radio affiliates and non-affils.

CBS took out a full-page ad in Monday's USA Today listing its top-10 reasons for radio-station managers to pick up the show. Absent from the list was one of CBS' own top reasons for offering it -- for months, local radio stations have been taping the list off TV sets and playing it back on the air the next morning.

"They have to deal with us exclusively," said CBS Radio's VP of affiliate relations Nick Kiernan, stressing that the list is the Eye web's "creative property."

Over the next few weeks, CBS will run ads in the trade papers, "explaining this issue" of copyright to radio programmers.

In response to the ad, more than 75 interested radio-station managers contacted the network about airing the feature. Revenue will be generated through barter.
