Sodano takes helm at Sacis

Giampaolo Sodano, former president of Italian pubcaster RAI-2, has been named director general of Sacis, RAI's foreign sales arm. He replaces Leopoldo Brescia.

During the four years Sodano was at the helm of RAI-2, he revitalized the network's schedule by focusing on news and made-for-TV drama, resulting in improved ratings. Before joining RAI-2, he was managing director of RAI's ad sales wing, Sipra.

Sodano's appointment puts to rest persistent rumors that Sacis will be dismantled in the wake of RAI's restructuring effort.

"Sacis' operating budget is relatively balanced. Our biggest problem is RAI's production crisis -- it means Sacis has less product to sell. We'll have to seek out new market niches for our product," said Sodano.

Andrea Melodia, a top RAI exec in charge of drama production and acquisition, has been named Sacis president.
