Lee latches on to 'Jungle' role

Jason Scott Lee, star of the upcoming Tig Prods./Warner Bros. epic "Rapa Nui, " will keep his loincloth on abit longer.

The thesp is set to head the cast as Mowgli in Disney's live-action version of Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book."

Sam Neill is in final negotiations to join the cast as the Colonel, a character based on Kipling.

The studio could not be reached for comment.

The $ 25 million "Jungle" will shoot for five weeks in and around Jodhpur and Bombay, India. For the rest of the production, the same South Carolina woods that provided canopy for "The Last of the Mohicans" will double for the tropical foliage.

Ed Feldman produces "Jungle" for Disney Pictures. StephenSommers, who wrote and helmed "The Adventures of Huck Finn," will direct.

Lee starred in "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" and "Map of the Human Heart." He is repped by United Talent Agency's Cynthia Shelton.

Neill stars in the upcoming Miramax drama "Sirens," which also features Elle MacPherson and Hugh Grant.
