Producer Robert J. DeBrino has signed with the Arthur Co. to develop a telefilm based on the Simon & Schuster book "Sins of the Father," a mob story written by Nick Taylor. DeBrino, who recently moved to Los Angeles, also acquired rights through his Canterbury Films to crime novels by former district attorney Robert K. Tanenbaum, whose fifth novel, "Material Witness," will be published in June.

Internationally renowned tenor Placido Domingo has joined the UCLA music department as an adjunct professor. Domingo will teach classes on the Westwood campus when his performance schedule permits.

HBO will air "Loco Slam!," four half-hour specials from HBO's Tropix, a production company headed by Nely Galan and Augusto Failde to focus on the English-speaking Latino market. Galan and Paul Rodriguez will exec produce the specials, which will tape Wednesday and Thursday at the Mayan Theatre for airing later this year. Carlos Mencia will host and 19 standup comedians will be featured.

Telemundo's telethon to benefit Northridge earthquake victims generated more than $ 1.5 million Saturday. Proceeds will be distributed through the Red Cross and Salvation Army.

Nielsen Media Research and Whittle Communications will create an audience measurement system for Special Report Network, an information service that features TV monitors in more than 22,000 medical reception areas across the U.S.
