Eagles reunite for video clip
The quintet of Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Don Felder, Timothy B. Schmit and Joe Walsh appear in the video as part of the recently recorded version of the Eagles hit by country singer Travis Tritt.
Tritt and a dozen other country music artists appear on "Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles," the Giant Records album featuring many of the band's chart-toppers.
Irving Azoff, Giant Records chief and former Eagles manager, orchestrated the reunion, which took place last month under tight security in Los Angeles.
No fireworks
Despite the longstanding acrimony between the players, sources on the set say the taping was uneventful. The recent gathering fueled speculation of a forthcoming Eagles reunion.
The release of the Threads disc sparked controversy when the distribution of the proceeds, a portion of which is earmarked for Henley's pet charity, the Walden Woods Foundation, were questioned by representatives of several of the artists involved.
The reps claimed they were told a larger share would go to the charity, and not to the label's coffers. The Nashville attorney general determined there was no wrongdoing.
Since its October release, the disc has sold over 2.5 million copies. Its singles have also become adult contemporary and country radio staples.
VH-1 will put the video, which airs at 9 p.m., into heavy rotation in its lineup, a rarely held position for a country musicvideo.
Separately, Tritt has been tapped by the music channel to become a permanent host of its Country Countdown segment. The channel typically alternates hosts of the popular program block, and the move marks VH-1's first use of an artist for multiple appearances.
