Disney's Frank nabs nod for showmanship

Disney Studios president Richard H. Frank is skedded to receive the Television Showmanship Award at the 31st annual awards luncheon of the Publicists Guild of America, the organization announced Tuesday.

The event is skedded for March 26 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The Guild said Frank is being recognized for the production and marketing of television series produced during his tenure at Disney Studios, as well as Frank's role as president of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Awards committee chairman Henri Bollinger said in a statement, "The exceptional success of Disney's slate of television programs could not have been accomplished without the kind of aggressive and creative showmanship that Rich Frank encourages" within the Disney ranks.

Past recipients of the Television Showmanship Award include Fred Silverman, David Wolper, Grant Tinker, Norman Lear, Aaron Spelling, Bob Hope, Nick Vanoff and George Stevens Jr. Last year's winner was the producing team of Paul Witt, Tony Thomas and Susan Harris.

Frank's accolade follows the Publicists Guild announcement that Mace Neufeld and Bob Rehme will take the Motion Picture Showmanship Award. Other awards to be divvied up at the luncheon are the Press Award, the International Media Award, the Bob Yeager Award, the Les Mason Award and the Maxwell Weinberg Award.
