Romanian TV topper resigns

By REUTERS

BUCHAREST, Romania -- The Romanian government has accepted the resignation of the head of state television and appointed the secretary of state for information, Dumitr Popa, to the post.

Former TV general manager Paul Everac submitted his resignation Monday following criticism by staff and opposition parties, according to a government statement issued Tuesday.

His move followed bitter attacks by political parties and television employees that included criticisms of his performance and allegations of political bias.

The appointment of Popa, secretary of state in charge of the government's information department, was approved at a special cabinet meeting.
