NBC extends Notre Dame deal

NBC has expanded its contract with the University of Notre Dame to telecast the Fighting Irish home games through the millennium.

NBC and Notre Dame just concluded the third year of a five-year, $ 37 million-plus pact.

Under the terms of the new agreement, the Peacock web will present six games per season. According to sources close to the negotiations, Notre Dame got "a slight increase" in the new deal and in return threw in a basketball package.

Commencing with the 1994-95 college basketball season, NBC will have the rights through the duration of the new deal to broadcast four Notre Dame basketball games.

"We are delighted to continue our relationship with one of the premier sports attractions on TV," NBC Sports topper Dick Ebersol said in a prepared statement. "It's been a terrific partnership for both sides. We're very excited to continue it."
