Audio Society skeds sound awards

The Cinema Audio Society said awards for best sound in television and feature films will be presented for the first time at its 30th anniversary awards dinner/dance, set for March 5 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel.

CAS president Ed Somers said in a statement, "Although we respect and value the recognition our members receive from the television and motion picture academies through Emmys and Oscars, we believe the CAS awards will more accurately reflect the very best in technical and artistic achievements in sound recording."

The CAS will continue its tradition of presenting a life achievement award, as well as honors for the 1993 Emmy winners and Oscar nominees. Founded in 1964, CAS has a membership of 300 professionals from the movie and television sound industries.
