TriStar's pay-or-play deal lures Goldblum to 'Hideaway'
A thriller, about a dead man who is resuscitated and returns to life, psychologically linked to an evil person, "Hideaway" has been in development at TriStar for two years under the aegis of Summers-Quaid Prods., which preemptively purchased the movie rights to the book in galley form (Daily Variety, Dec. 18, 1991).
At the time of the acquisition,Summers-Quaid Prods. partner Dennis Quaid was considered a top candidate to star, but he bowed out of the running early when he signed for a role with Kevin Costner in the Warner Bros. pic "Wyatt Earp."
Screenwriters Andrew Kevin Walker and "The Waterdance" screenwriter/co-director Neal Jimenez adapted "Hideaway" for the screen.
The project is expected to go out to actors and actresses to star opposite Goldblum before the end of the year. Lorraine Bracco has expressed interest in the project, but sources indicated that there are no negotiations between her and the studio.
Leonard is expected to tap some major special effects for the production, building on his reputation as a high-tech filmmaker.
Effects work is earmarked for Sony Image Works, which is SPE's start-up special effects wing.
