Handelman exits Fox

David Handelman, the tenacious exec who led 20th Century Fox's fight for zoning clearance to expand the studio's facilities in Century City, has resigned.

Sources report that Handelman, who has been with Fox for more than 19 years, is close to signing with a major law firm.

Handelman declined comment.

Fox officials would not confirm the exec's exit, but sources said he will depart by year's end.

As Fox's senior VP of external and legal affairs, Handelman was point man in the studio's two-year battle to get the Los Angeles City Council and zoning board to approve plans for a $ 200 million, 771,000-square-foot expansion.

The studio came up against strong opposition early on when homeowners launched an attack, saying the expansion would worsen traffic congestion.

Prior to his tenure at Fox, Handelman worked at a New York investment banking firm and spent several years with the Securities & Exchange Commission.
