'Casper' taps Silberling

Television director Brad Silberling will make his feature film directing debut on the Amblin/Universal feature "Casper," replacing Alex Proyas who left last week over creative differences (Daily Variety, Nov. 29).

Silberling most recently directed the pilot of Steven Bochco's "Byrds of Paradise," an ABC midseason drama starring Timothy Busfield.

Prior to that, he directed episodes of "L.A. Law,""NYPD Blue,""Civil Wars, ""Doogie Howser" and "Brooklyn Bridge."

"Casper," based on the cartoon "Casper the Friendly Ghost," is a live-action/computer-animated film that will star Christina Ricci. Principal photography is due to start early next year.

Neither Silberling's agent, CAA's David Lonner, nor Amblin execs could be reached for comment.
