Pollack's son dies in crash

The son of filmmaker Sydney Pollack was one of two student pilots killed when a single-engine training plane crashed into an apartment building Friday.

Steven Pollack, 34, a resident of Marin County, was identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner's office Friday night.

Steven Pollack and his family were in L.A. visiting relatives during the holiday weekend, unidentified sources told the Los Angeles Times.

A call to Sydney Pollack's representatives at the Creative Artists Agency went unanswered early Saturday.

David Lyon, 35, of suburban Westchester was the other student pilot killed.

The Italian-made Marchetti M260 aircraft had just taken off from Santa Monica Airport about 1 1/2 miles east of the building when it clipped a power line and slammed into a carport, bursting into flame, witnesses said.
