'Home' alone at top of ratings

CBS held its own over the holiday weekend to continue its march toward a likely November sweeps win, but NBC enjoyed the biggest ratings feast with its Thanksgiving-night telecast of "Home Alone."

It garnered a huge 34 share in Nielsen overnight markets, comparable to numbers two years ago for CBS' Thanksgiving broadcast premiere of "E.T."

Wednesday and Friday went to ABC, though the latter night's lineup was negatively affected by low holiday viewing and special programming, including CBS' "Circus of the Stars" and Fox Broadcasting Co.'s "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze."

NBC's Larry Hagman vehicle "Staying Afloat" bowed in the "Mystery Movie" slot with a modest 15 share.

ABC was helped Wednesday by the special "Gala for the President," which won the 10 p.m. hour.

The Alphabet web didn't help its cause last Tuesday, as the miniseries "JFK: Reckless Youth" concluded its two-night run with an 8.7/14.
