Scopus nods to King

Radio talkshow host Larry King has been tapped as Scopus Laureate for the American Friends of the Hebrew University, ending speculation over who would be the replacement for singer Michael Jackson.

The organization dropped Jackson following the singer's admission that he was addicted to painkillers and his subsequent entry into a treatment facility.

King had been on the org's short list, sources said, among such industry notables as entertainer George Burns and media mogul Ted Turner.

King will receive the award during black-tie ceremonies on Jan. 29 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
