Cinematographers pay tribute to Cardiff

British cinematographer Jack Cardiff, who won an Oscar in 1947 for his work on "Black Narcissus," will receive the American Society of Cinematographers' 1994 Intl. Achievement Award. The presentation will be made at the eighth annual ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards Feb. 27 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Cardiff is the ASC's second major award recipient for 1994, joining Conrad Hall, who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Cardiff is the only person to earn Oscar nominations for both cinematography and directing. His directing Oscar nomination came in 1960 for "Sons and Lovers."

Cardiff, a member of the British Society of Cinematographers, also earned Oscar nominations for his work on "War and Peace" and "Fanny."
