DIC's getting interactive
Goldstein, who has been involved in the interactive software field from its inception, will be developing programs -- both entertainment and educational -- for computers, CD-ROM and cartridge platforms and will also be charged with creating DIC's own software publishing label.
According to Goldstein, he will be exploiting DIC's extensive animation library, as well as overseeing the production of original interactive programming.
The new division will interface with the company's other newly formed entity, the DIC Educational Animation division, headed by Robby London. The two units will simultaneously develop programming for both TV and interactive platforms.
DIC has been one of the industry's leading producers of children's animated TV programming based on video and computer games. The company has turned popular such videogames as "Sonic the Hedgehog,""Super Mario Bros." and "Pole Position" into successful series for television.
Goldstein began his career with Sound/Video Unlimited as the director of their computer software and videogame distribution division in 1982. In 1988, he joined PCC Group Inc., a major manufacturer and distributor of computer systems.
As a result of adding its new divisions and facilities, DIC will move its headquarters Nov. 29 to 303 N. Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank.
