Col Television moves up Tobin

Leslie Tobin, who a decade ago introduced the first syndicated barter movie network to regularly premiere feature films on broadcast TV, has been upped from VP to senior VP of motion picture sales and acquisitions for Columbia Pictures Television Distribution.

In her new position, Tobin willcontinue to sell Sony Pictures Entertainment's theatrical releases to the Big Three networks and Fox Broadcasting, assemble syndication motion picture packages and develop new TV markets for the company's film properties.

Tobin's introduction of "Embassy Night at the Movies" in 1983 while at Embassy Television -- one of CPTD's predecessor companies -- spurred the barter movie concept that is now emulated by others in the domestic and international markets, according to Columbia.

The exec began her career at T.A.T. Communications, which merged with Embassy in 1978.
