Advanstar buys Live Time

Advanstar Communications bought Live Time Inc., the producer of ShowBiz Expo, for an undisclosed amount.

Bob and Nalini Lasiewicz, who founded the almost 10-year-old conference, will remain as consultants to Advanstar, a Cleveland trade magazine and exhibition company. The couple plan to expand the conference beyond its Los Angeles and New York programs.

"One of the things we hope to do is develop a European show," Nalini Lasiewicz said.

The Lasiewiczes started the show in 1984 as the Micro Show, a computer exhibition for the entertainment industry that had 51 exhibitors and 1,500 attendees. Last June's show at the Los Angeles Convention Center had 508 exhibitors and more than 28,000 attendees.
