Sky Latin America on air in Colombia
Satcaster teams with with four local partners to launch service; basic package will have 75 video and pay-per-view channels
Sky has teamed with four local partners in Colombia: RCN, a leading media organization with more than 6,500 hours of original programming and a license to operate a private broadcast channel; RTI, a large producer for television; El Tiempo, the country's leading newspaper, with other publishing interests; and Datos y Mensajes, the leading producer of television news programming.
The basic package in Colombia will have 75 video and pay-per-view channels, including local broadcast channel Senal Colombia, as well as Cadena 1 and Canal A, which will be available shortly, Sky said.
The local companies will provide Sky with a strong production and distribution infrastructure in Colombia, the satcaster said.
In Mexico and Brazil, Sky founding partners Televisa and Globo are the majority owners and operator of the DBS platform.
In Colombia and other new markets, Sky Latin America is bringing in country-only partners. Sky is the alliance of Televisa, Globo, TCI and News Corp.
The satcaster is looking to expand into the South American markets of Venezuela, Peru and Chile, but has not yet set dates for those launches.
