The 2011 Gotham Independent Film Awards had their usual indie vibe, with a Monday night ceremony that started late and included hosts Oliver Platt and Edie Falco threatening to sing, career-tribute award-winner Charlize Theron and Patton Oswalt arguing over who's watched "Dead Ringers" more often and an unusual tie for the top feature award, between "The Tree of Life" and "Beginners."

But that doesn't mean the indie crowd wasn't going to be asked to be shills. Winners were asked to pose backstage with vodka and hair dryers. Fox's Tom Rothman, another career tribute honoree, tried to give the hair dryer back.
