Jason Bateman on Steve Carell in 'Crazy, Stupid, Love'
SAG Preview 2011: Actors on Actors
By

Bateman

"He's brilliant at being able to live in both a dramatic moment and a comedic moment in the same scene and sometimes in the same line. That just shows an incredible agility and a lot of talent as an actor, not just a comedian. He's 100% believable doing something comedic or doing something dramatic. That takes a lot of skill. He's really convincing on both sides of the coin. Usually, characters are a little bit more one-dimensional, or there's a bunch of different characters to fill out the palette. Whereas, Steve's able to play a bunch of different colors or a bunch of different dimensions. To me, that's what the true tenor of a film should be -- somebody who can service all tones and all storylines convincingly."
