Warner Bros. sets new date for 'Pacific'

Pic moved up to May 10, 2013

Warner Bros. has moved sci-fier "Pacific Rim" forward two months to May 10, 2013, vacating the July 12 date that year.

Studio made the announcement Thursday. Idris Elba is on board for the lead ' with Guillermo del Toro directing "Rim," produced by Legendary and Warner Bros.

The pic, which also stars Charlie Day and ''Sons of Anarchy'' star Charlie Hunnan, centers on an alien invasion that threatens earth and the humans who come together to defend it.

"Pacific Rim" will open against Sony's "Mommy and Me," starring Meryl Streep and Tina Fey.

Disney's opening "Robopocalypse" on July 3, 2013 against Uni's "Despicable Me 2" for July 3.
