Few in the entertainment industry have done more to boost the potential of 3D animation than Jeffrey Katzenberg. For his efforts, the Dreamworks Animation CEO has been awarded the 3D Visionary Award at this year's 3D Entertainment Summit.

Dreamworks' 3D hits include "Kung Fu Panda 2," "How to Train Your Dragon" and "Shrek Forever After."

Katzenberg thanked the Summit for the award in a pre-recorded message presented onscreen. Katzenberg's speech acknowledged the struggles faced by exhibitors and distributors as they try to bring a quality experience with the new technology to audiences. Saying that there have been "bumps along the way" for 3D, Katzenberg said he still has tremendous enthusiasm for the technology.

Phil "Captain 3D" McNally, who is stereoscopic supervisor for Dreamworks Animation, accepted Katzenberg's award for him and then introduced a clip from DWA's upcoming "Puss in Boots," which was shown in 3D.
