Schrader on the hook for indie 'Bait'

Writer-helmer polishing thriller script by Bret Easton Ellis

Paul Schrader has signed on to helm the indie thriller "Bait."

Bret Easton Ellis penned the script, with Schrader currently doing a polish. Story follows a group of students trapped in shark-infested waters by a lunatic.

Pic will be produced by Braxton Pope, Matthew Perniciaro, Kevin Mann and Jesus Martinez Asencio through Galavis Films, Ithaka Entertainment and Picture Machine. Mandate Intl. is handling international distribution.

Schrader has several projects currently in development, including "The Jesuit," starring Oscar Isaac and Willem Dafoe.

He is repped by Gersh and Parseghian-Planco.
