'Torchwood' bow draws 1.5 million

Starz drama premiere similar to 'Camelot' ratings

"Torchwood: Miracle Day"

Starz's "Torchwood: Miracle Day," the spinoff of the cult-fave BBC series, bowed to modest numbers on Friday. Heavily promoted preem drew a combined 1.5 million viewers across two airings.

Starz's latest original drama series revolves around a society where nobody dies. It features key characters from past Beeb editions of "Torchwood." which gained a U.S. following through airings on the BBC America cabler.

But "Torchwood: Miracle Day" opened to similar launch numbers as the debut earlier this year of costume drama series "Camelot," which Starz recently canceled.

In its 10 p.m. bow, "Torchwood" drew 819,000 total viewers. That was followed by 687,000 for the repeat telecast an hour later.

John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Mekhi Phifer and Bill Pullman co-star in the skein from BBC Worldwide Prods.
