Cameron Diaz has joined Colin Firth in "Gambit," the remake of the 1966 British comedy that starred Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine.
Shooting will start in London in May with Michael Hoffman ("The Last Station") directing from a script by Joel and Ethan Coen. Mike Lobell is producing alongside Crime Scene Pictures partners Adam Ripp and Rob Paris, who are also financing.
FilmNation Entertainment will be handling sales outside the United States beginning at the European Film Market in Berlin in February.
Firth will portray a London art curator planning an elaborate scheme to con a wealthy collector into buying a fake Monet painting. He recruits a Texas steer roper, played by Diaz, to act the part of a woman whose grandfather liberated the painting at the end of WWII.
Ripp and Paris formed Crime Scene Pictures last May. Backed by private equity, the company plans to finance and produce two to three feature films annually.
Diaz is currently seen in "The Green Hornet" and recently wrapped "Bad Teacher."
