MPI gets 'Nice' at Sundance

Group nabs U.S. rights to Ifans dramedy

Park City-- MPI Media Group has picked up U.S. rights to Rhys Ifans comedy-drama "Mr. Nice" here at the Sundance Film Festival.

Pic, based on the memoir by dope smuggler and raconteur Howard Marks, is helmed by Bernard Rose ("Immortal Beloved") and also stars Chloe Sevigny and David Thewlis.

"Mr. Nice," which was released in Blighty in October, is skedded for a spring theatrical release this year.

Pic was being shopped by Luc Roeg's sales outfit Independent here in Park City where the deal was negotiated by head of sales, Abigail Walsh, and MPI Media Group's exec vice prexy Greg Newman.

Pic, which has been shown previously at the South by Southwest Film Festival as well as Edinburgh Seville and Turin, was also produced by Roeg.
