Banff to honor Howie Mandel

Performer to receive Award of Distinction

Veteran Canuck performer Howie Mandel will receive the Award of Distinction at the 32nd Banff World Television Festival.

"After 20 years in show business, Howie Mandel is a household name in Canada and across the globe," said Banff fest executive director Ferne Cohen on Wednesday.

Toronto-born Mandel got his start in stand-up comedy in the late 1970s, moving into TV and film work. He recently received an Emmy nom for his host gig on game show "Deal or No Deal" and earlier this year replaced David Hasselhoff as a judge on "America's Got Talent."

Previous honorees include Eric McCormack, Kim Cattrall and Paul Haggis.

The fest runs June 12-15 at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, Banff, Canada. Highlights include the Banff World Television awards.
