Trio join 'Life of Pi' cast

Irrfan Khan, Gerard Depardieu and Adil Hussain have joined the cast of Fox 2000's "Life of Pi," which Ang Lee begins lensing early next year.

They join newcomer Suraj Sharma, who will play the title role in the bigscreen adaptation of Yann Martel's bestselling tome.

Bollywood actress Tabu is in talks to play Pi's mother. Khan ("Slumdog Millionaire") will play the adult Pi, while Hussain will pay Pi's father. Depardieu will play the role of The Chef.

Film centers on a boy cast adrift in a lifeboat with a Bengal Tiger after it kills three other animals.

Lee will direct from an adapted script by David Magee. Gil Netter and David Womark will produce pic, set to shoot in 3D.

Pic is skedded to open in theaters Dec. 14, 2012.
