Spanish director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego has been tapped to replace Trevor Cawood on the Weinstein Co.'s sci-fi thriller "Apollo 18."

Lopez-Gallego's credits include features "Nomads" and "King of the Hill" and TV movie "The Blue Skin."

TWC scooped up worldwide rights two weeks ago to the Timur Bekmambetov-produced "Apollo 18" and shopped the project at AFM. The film's on a fast track with a March 4 release date already set.

"Apollo 18," scripted by Brian Miller, is set to be shot documentary style and purports to include lost footage from Apollo 18's undocumented and covert mission to the moon, revealing disturbing new evidence of other life forms. (In reality, Apollo 17 was NASA's final Apollo mission.)

Bekmambetov is producing "Apollo 18" with Michele Wolkoff, prexy of development at Bekmambetov Projects.

Lopez-Gallego is repped by ICM and Principato-Young.
