Syfy embarks on 'Sinbad' adventure

Cabler adds classic character to original movie series

Sinbad is setting sail again, this time on Syfy.

Cabler plans to air "Sinbad and the Minotaur," a feature starring Manu Bennett ("Spartacus: Blood and Sand"). Pic is scheduled to premiere in 2011 as part of Syfy's Saturday Original Movies series, which has drawn audiences as big as 3 million (for "Lake Placid 3").

American World Pictures, which has previously produced "Pterodactyl" and "Yeti" for Syfy, is producing the Australian-shot "Sinbad," with Karl Zwicky directing Jim Noble's script. The plot features sailors, sorcery, rumors of hidden ancient treasure, a princess in distress and, of course, the Minotaur itself. Holly Brisley and Steven Grives co-star.

"Sinbad" will first screen at the American Film Market next month.
