Chan Ho-sun enters chopsocky genre

$20 million 'Wu Xia' to star Donnie Yen

BEIJING -- Hong Kong helmer-producer Peter Chan Ho-sun is venturing into martial arts with his latest $20 million actioner "Wu Xia," which starts lensing this month in Yunnan province.

The pic will be produced and financed under his revamped We Pictures label. Chan's past four films have generated $88 million B.O. in mainland China.

"Wu Xia" features action star Donnie Yen ("Ip Man") and Takeshi Kaneshiro ("Red Cliff").

"It's been 10 years since the only great martial arts film like 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' came along, which is why I want to give this genre a reboot," Chan said. "I want to demonstrate the physicality and lethality of martial arts by injecting medical and scientific elements into action choreography."
