MSNBC has hired Time Magazine editor-at-large Mark Halperin as a senior political analyst. Halperin continues to work for Time (also as senior political analyst), and held a similar title at ABC News, where he worked for 20 years. He stepped down as ABC's political director in March 2007. Halperin's tenure at MSNBC began on Wednesday AM with "Morning Joe."
Halperin is the co-author with John Heilemann of the bestselling 2008 election chronicle "Game Change" and worked the DC beat for ABC, covering the Clinton White House.
The net also hired another print journo this week -- former Washington Post reporter David Weigel, who resigned last Friday amid controversy over personal emails sent to private email chain Journolist suggesting conservative web pundit Matt Drudge "set himself on fire" (he has since apologized). Weigel, who covered conservatives and the Tea Party movement for the Post, will be a contributor on MSNBC.
