Stillman lines up 'Damsels'

'Last Days of Disco' director sets fourth feature

Director Whit Stillman, whose last film was 1998's "The Last Days of Disco," is readying his fourth feature.

The writer-helmer of "Metropolitan," "Barcelona" and "The Last Days of Disco" will shoot "Damsels in Distress" in August and September at locations in the Northeast.

"It's a college comedy," Stillman said. "It's about four stylish, perfume-obsessed college girls who revolutionize the social life at their grungy university."

Stillman described "Damsels" as "ultra-low-budget" and said that he was happy with the response from actresses interested in the femme-centric comedy. Pic is casting in New York and Los Angeles.

"Damsels" will be co-produced by Stillman and Alicia Van Couvering, producer of IFC-distribbed SXSW prizewinner "Tiny Furniture." Helmer said he was hoping for a summer 2011 release date.

The multihyphenate earned an Oscar nom with his script for 1991's "Metropolitan."
