Paramount/DreamWork's "Shrek Forever After" continued its hold on the domestic B.O. this Memorial Day weekend.
The 3D pic retains the No. 1 spot with a three day total of about $43.3 million in 4,367 runs, besting the well-coifed Manhattan socialites of "Sex and the City 2." The New Line/Warner Bros. sequel chased the animated film for the No. 2 spot and brought in about $37.7 million in 3,445 engagements.
Disney's new Jake Gyllenhaal-fronted "Prince of Persia" brought in about $30.1 million this weekend in 3,646 engagements. Paramount's "Iron Man 2" grabbed the No. 4 spot this weekend, taking in an estimated $16.9 million. Rounding out the top five was Universal's "Robin Hood," which earned about $10.6 million in 3,804 runs this weekend.
Summit's "Letters to Juliet" topped the bottom five with an estimate for the weekend of $6 million in 2,825 runs. Fox Searchlight's romantic comedy "Just Wright" earned about $2.2 million in 1,195 engagements. Fox's "Date Night" collected about $1.8 million in 1,126 runs for the No. 8 spot this weekend, while Universal's "MacGruber" earned an estimate of $1.5 million in 2,546 runs. Coming in last in the top 10 was Paramount's "How to Train Your Dragon," which earned about $1 million this weekend in 825 runs.
Studios will release their four-day estimates on Monday.
