An increase in market share for local pics helped Cinemaxx, Germany's top exhibitor, report better-than-expected fourth-quarter 2009 profits.

BRUSSELS -- Fox Intl. Channels is strengthening its presence in Abu Dhabi.

New and existing oOperations aimed at the Middle East are to be centralized in the city-state under a deal with government media agency twofour54, it announced Monday.

Abu Dhabi will become the center of Middle East operations for online advertising network business, with an expanded sales force.

Aim is to enter rapidly into agreements with sites in the region, extending the reach of the network, Fox said.

Fox's docu business NHNZ will also set up an office in Abu Dhabi, to manage Middle East productions, with an emphasis on building up 3D production and expertise.

The office will develop projects with local producers for international broadcast and feed local specialist channels such Fox's own National Geographic Abu Dhabi.

Finally, some of Fox's satellite channels targeted at the Middle East will move from Hong Kong and other locations to a broadcasting facility in Abu Dhabi run by twofour54.

News came on the eve of the Abu Dhabi Media Summit, which starts today, where Fox topper Rupert Murdoch is among speakers.
