Shauna Cross ("Whip It!") has been tapped to pen the screenplay.
"Heist Society," due to be published this month by Hyperion, centers on a teenage girl balancing school and her family's criminal activities. In the novel, the story's triggered by powerful mobster being robbed of his priceless art collection -- with the girl's father as the main suspect -- and the protagonist responding by assembling a crew to steal it back.
The studio plans for the main characters to be aged up slightly to their early 20s.
Carter also penned the "Gallagher Girls" series set in a girls boarding school for spies. Di Novi produced "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" projects along a trio of Nicholas Sparks' adaptations for the studio -- "Nights in Rodanthe," "A Walk to Remember" and "Message in a Bottle."
Cross also penned the adaptation of romancer "If I Stay" for Summit with Catherine Hardwicke attached to direct.
