In a mid-six-figure deal, IFC Films has acquired North American rights to Ricki Stern and Anne Sundberg's "Joan Rivers -- A Piece of Work."

Sundance docu competition entry had a number of suitors, including Anchor Bay, Phase 4 and Roadside Attractions. Bidding went relatively high for a doc, with three distribs gunning for "Rivers" in the final round.

The up-close look at the self-depricating American comic was one of several buzzed-about docs at Sundance to draw immediate distributor interest. Pic also took home the fest's editing prize on Saturday.

Producers are Stern, Sundberg and Seth Keal. Pic was edited by Penelope Falk.

"Rivers" marked a return to Sundance for the Emmy-nommed filmmakers. Stern and Sundberg's "The Trials of Darryl Hunt," about a wrongly accused man, competed at Sundance in 2006, while their Darfur-witness doc "The Devil Came on Horseback" unspooled at the fest in 2007.

IFC's Arianna Bocco negotiated the deal with Submarine's Josh Braun and Jason Janego.

"It was an incredible and joyous experience, and I'm proud to be a part of something so honest and amazingly produced," Rivers said in a statement after the deal closed. "Now, show me the money!"

Distrib is eyeing a summer release.
