ABC picks up '1-8-7 Detroit'

Network nabs first new drama pilot of the year

ABC execs are already back to work, picking up "1-8-7 Detroit" -- the net's first drama pilot of the year.

Hourlong drama follows the exploits of Motor City homicide detectives, as seen through the eyes of a fictitious documentary crew. Drama comes with a strong dose of comedy as well.

ABC Studios is behind the drama, which comes from scribe and exec producer Jason Richman ("Swing Vote").

Mandeville Films is also behind the drama; the shingle's David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will exec produce.

"1-8-7 Detroit" is one of several projects that Mandeville set up at ABC this season (Daily Variety, Nov. 6). Mandeville, which has a first-look deal at ABC Studios, was behind USA's long-running hit "Monk," which just went off the air.
