Steven Soderbergh's docu "And Everything Is Going Fine" will world premiere at the 2010 Slamdance Film Festival. Feature-length pic is an intimate look at the life and work of the late writer and performer Spaulding Gray.
Soderbergh also will participate in Slamdance's Filmmaker Summit, a gathering that aims to invite filmmakers, both in Park City and virtually, to collectively craft a new charter for storytelling and content distribution, with and by the global filmmaking community, that can succeed by using new technology.
The helmer, whose "sex, lies and videotape" is synonymous with the rise of the other Park City-based fest, Sundance, has often participated in the rival event and maintained an ongoing relationship with Slamdance by showing his films at the fest and by working with several of its filmmakers. He produced Greg Mottola's "The Daytrippers," which won Slamdance's first jury prize in 1996. The following year, Soderbergh premiered dadaist caper "Schizopolis" at the fest.
"Steven Soderbergh represents the spirit of Slamdance," said fest prexy and co-founder Peter Baxter. "This year, he's fully immersed himself within our community in support of the indie filmmaker by debuting an independently made film about a renowned independent artist."
The Summit and the preem of "And Everything Is Fine" will take place Jan. 23 at Slamdance headquarters, the Treasure Mountain Inn. Fest, which is programmed by filmmakers, will run concurrently with Sundance Jan. 21-28 in Park City, Utah.
