Disney deals with de la Cruz

Young adult author sets up new novel series

Young adult novelist Melissa de la Cruz has signed contracts at Hyperion and Disney Book Group, including a two-book deal for a new series of novels.

The first book in the young adult series will be called "Witches of East End" and is set for publication in spring 2011. The book follows the Beauchamp girls, residents of the fictional town of Northampton, and will include characters from de la Cruz's "Blue Bloods" young adult series of vampire novels.

Disney-Hyperion, the imprint that publishes "Blue Bloods," has also struck a deal for two books in another new series from de la Cruz. "Wolf Pact" will deal with the werewolf character from "Blue Bloods."

Disney-Hyperion will also publish three "Blue Bloods" companion books, including "Blue Bloods: Keys to the Repository," set for 2010, "Blue Bloods: Bloody Valentine" and "Blue Bloods: The Graphic Novel," both slated for 2011.

The acquisitions follow a recent wave of vampire-themed TV shows and films.

Jennifer Besser will continue to edit de la Cruz at Disney-Hyperion.
