'Warfare' bows in London

Vidgame debuts with huge sales numbers

LONDON -- The line between vidgames and feature films has blurred even further following the boffo release of Activision Blizzard's "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2."

The game, which sold 4.7 million units in the U.S. and U.K. on its first day, according to Activision execs, became the first vidgame to have a preem in London's Leicester Square. A camouflage-hued carpet replaced red at the Nov. 10 event, and thesps Kevin McKidd , Billy Murray and Craig Fairbrass were on hand to discuss their voice roles in the epic game, which follows a platoon of soldiers in South America, Russia, Kazakhstan and Afghanistan.

The game has attracted some vociferous criticism.

One mission sees players infiltrate a terrorist gang by helping it mow down civilians in an airport.

If initial sales are anything to go by — "Call of Duty" doubled the opening-day sales record held by "Grand Theft Auto IV" — auds seem unperturbed by the ultraviolence.
