At its 20th edition, Stockholm is honoring thesp Susan Sarandon and helmer-producer Luc Besson. Both will be present to receive their awards.
FOCUS ON COMPETITION
Opening the fest is U.S. drama "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire" screening in competition, with helmer Lee Daniels present. Closing film is Jason Reitman's competition screener "Up in the Air." Other competition pics include Andrea Arnold's "Fish Tank," Tarik Saleh's "Metropia," Jaco van Dormael's "Mr. Nobody," Xavier Dolan's "I Killed My Mother," Cherien Dabis' "Amreeka" and Giorgos Lanthimos' "Dogtooth."
BIGGER IS BETTER
With 170 films, this year's program is the largest yet, says fest topper Git Scheynius and the reason that the fest is starting one day earlier than usual. The competition at the Stockholm fest is for helmers who have directed, at the most, three films. "This is a way to make sure that new voices are heard," Scheynius says.
JURY DUTY
The jury comprises French producer Olivier Guerpillon, Swedish actress Lina Englund, Swedish helmer Bjorn Stein, rock singer Maria Andersson and film critic Fionnuala Halligan.
