Conrad coached many young actors in theater, film and TV including Jack Nicholson, Susan Sarandon, Kim Basinger, Dennis Quaid, Michelle Pfieffer, Diana Ross, and Robert Duvall.
The only child of German immigrants, Conrad grew up in New York City. When he was 17 he joined the U.S. Navy as an armed guard of merchant ships during WWII.
After the war, Conrad earned a degree from Carnegie Institue of Technology where he studied theater directing.
He began studying acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse Theater in New York under Sanford Meisner in 1952.
Conrad later opened CEC Studio in Burbank where he redefined the Meisner technique and added the script into repetition exercises. Many acting coaches today use this technique.
Conrad is survived by his wife, Pamela Mansfield-Conrad, and two sons.
Donations can be made in Conrad's name to the non-profit animal sanctuary he helped create, D.E.L.T.A. Rescue in Glendale.
