Art Directors honor Warren Beatty

Industry icon to receive Cinematic Imagery Award

The Art Directors Guild has selected Warren Beatty as the recipient of its Outstanding Contribution to Cinematic Imagery Award.

The org noted that only Beatty and Orson Welles have been nominated for Academy Awards as an actor, director, writer and producer on the same film, with Beatty achieving that distinction on "Heaven Can Wait" and "Reds."

Past recipients of the Cinematic Imagery Award include Allen Daviau, Clint Eastwood, Blake Edwards, Terry Gilliam, Ray Harryhausen, Norman Jewison, John Lasseter, George Lucas, Frank Oz, Steven Spielberg, Robert S. Wise and Zhang Yimou. The award will be presented to Beatty at the fourth annual Art Directors Guild Awards on Feb. 13 at the Beverly Hilton.

Beatty began his film career in 1961 with "Splendor in the Grass."

Beatty has received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award from AMPAS, the Board of Governors Award from the American Society of Cinematographers, the Distinguished Director Award from the Costume Designers Guild, the PGA's Milestone Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. and the AFI's lifetime achievement award.
