Howard joins AFL-CIO council

Vote sets prexy as Rosenberg's replacement

The AFL-CIO's exec council has tapped Screen Actors Guild prexy Ken Howard to serve as a member of the council, the labor org's ruling body, replacing former SAG president Alan Rosenberg.

Vote was held Monday in Washington, D.C.

Howard was elected to a two-year term as SAG president in September over Seymour Cassel and Rosenberg ally Anne-Marie Johnson.

The council is the AFL-CIO's governing body, composed of three national officers and 51 VPs from various sectors of the labor community. Howard's term runs until the summer of 2013.

"It is a privilege to represent Screen Actors Guild members on the executive council and to work closely with the leaders of the national labor movement," Howard said in a statement.

The executive council also passed a resolution honoring Rosenberg for his service on the council and for SAG's support of the Employee Free Choice Act and other issues of importance to working families.
