Fox Searchlight is in talks to co-finance the film and distribute domestically. Cross Creek Pictures is already on board to co-finance. Cross Creek's Brian Oliver is producing alongside Scott Franklin of Protozoa. Arnold Messer and Mike Medavoy of Phoenix Pictures are also producing.
Overnight Prods.' Rick Schwartz is an equity investor in the film and also a producer.
Set in the New York ballet world, the story centers on a veteran dancer (Portman) and a rival (Kunis) who are tangled in a manipulative relationship, but it's unclear whether the rival is real or a figment of the ballet dancer's imagination. Ryder will play a fellow dancer.
Ryder, whose career had been dormant for nearly a decade, has begun to work again in high-profile projects. This summer, she portrayed Spock's mother in the "Star Trek" reboot. She will next be seen in Rebecca Miller's "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee."
Ryder is currently shooting "When Love is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story," a Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation for CBS.
