Directed by Jerry Zaks, the new show will start previews March 6 at a Shubert theater to be announced. It marks the third Rialto engagement for Barry Humphries' wisteria-haired alter ego, following 2000 Tony winner "Dame Edna: The Royal Tour" and 2004's "Dame Edna: Back With a Vengeance."
The show squeaks in one week ahead of the similarly titled "All About Me," the upcoming Broadway engagement of popular singer and musician Michael Feinstein, opening March 30.
" 'It's All About Me' is my title," said Dame Edna. "While I was saddened to hear that Mr. Feinstein did not heed my sage advice to change the title of his show, I'm overjoyed to hear that he at least took my suggestion to open his show after mine. I'm sure Mrs. Feinstein is very proud of her son."
No producers have been announced for the Dame Edna outing. But the overlapping titles, near-identical dates and unspecified Shubert theater venue are leading many to speculate that the dueling announcements are in fact for one show featuring both performers or sharing the same theater.
Vet director Zaks' most recent Broadway production was the 2007 revival of Chazz Palminteri's hit solo vehicle, "A Bronx Tale."
