NeoClassics Films has acquired U.S. rights to Belgian Oscar submission "The Misfortunates." Film played in Director's Fortnight at this year's Cannes Film Festival and won three jury prizes at Hamptons Fest.Felix van Groeningen helmed and co-wrote the Flemish-language pic. Dirk Impens produced along with IDTV.Inspired by Dimitri Verhulst's autobiography, "Misfortunates" follows a teen's tough but at times humorous homelife struggles.NeoClassics will send the film out in December for an exclusive run in Los Angeles for other awards consideration. Distrib released Belgian comedy "Moscow, Belguim" last year. Paris-based MK2 is handling French distribution as well as international sales on the pic at AFM.
